Chesapeake College

About Chesapeake College

1000 College Cir, Wye Mills, MD 21679

(410) 822-5400

The new campus was dedicated, Dr. Silver was formally inaugurated, and the College held its first Homecoming Weekend during the 1969–70 school year. The College reached another milestone with full accreditation granted by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools as Chesapeake’s third academic year drew to a close.

A new Board of Trustees, appointed by the Governor on July 1, 1974, saw ground broken for construction of the Technical Center and for an addition to the Physical Education building that would house the College’s Olympic-size pool.

The opening of these new buildings for the 1976-77 academic year increased the College’s ability to serve its public, and the traditionally strong liberal arts and sciences, career, occupational, and technical curricula were expanded. These programs continue to grow, and the College has constructed a Manufacturing Training Center building to house workshops, classrooms, and equipment.

Messenger College

About Messenger College

405 Euless Blvd, Euless, TX 76039

Messenger College was founded in 1987 upon the foundation of two merged collegiate institutions. In November of 1983, the Pentecostal Church of God, the sponsoring organization of two denominational colleges in the United States, elected to merge those institutions into one college in Joplin, Missouri, the host city of its international headquarters. Accordingly, Southern Bible College (Houston, Texas), an accredited institution with the American Association of Bible Colleges, and Evangelical Christian College (Fresno, California), authorized by the California Post-Secondary Education Commission, were closed and the resources moved to Joplin, Missouri, where Messenger College was opened in newly constructed facilities on 16 acres of wooded property across from the international offices of the church denomination. The College opened in September 1987. The College requested and, upon review, has been granted transferability of credit status for its general education curriculum by Missouri Southern State College, Joplin, Missouri. This was effective upon notification by MSSC on October 12, 1988. The College was also granted transferability of credit status with five additional regionally accredited institutions. Messenger College is a legal entity operating under the statutes of the State of Missouri and the aegis of the Pentecostal Church of God ecclesiastical denomination. The denomination consists of 1,186 churches in the United States. In addition, the denomination's outreach to Third World nations include 5,400 churches and outstations, 89 schools and training centers, and numerous assistance programs providing food, clothing and related human care outreaches. Messenger College is the denomination's national collegiate institution in the United States for the education of its ministers, missionaries, teachers, and other professionals to serve its constituency and others in the United States and abroad.

Our purpose is to increase and enhance student achievement, responsibility, and engagement throughout the Winthrop Experience. University College coordinates and supports programs in both academic affairs and student affairs. We enable faculty and staff to work across disciplines, ensuring that every Winthrop student, regardless of his or her ultimate degree goal, has a common academic foundation and a commitment to lifelong learning, leadership, and service.
