Darton State College

About Darton State College:

2400 Gillionville Rd  Albany, GA 31707
(229) 317-6000

Darton College is located on a 180-acre campus in Southwest Georgia, a region known for its year-round warm climate. The city has been ranked by Money Magazine as the best place to live in Georgia and among the top 115 places to live in the United States. With a population of 100,000, you will find a plethora of shopping areas and entertainment centers near the campus. Tallahassee (Fla.) and Columbus (Ga.) are a little over an hour away; Atlanta (Ga.) and Panama City (Fla.), three hours away; Orlando (Fla.) and Myrtle Beach (S.C.), four hours away. Such access is important to occasional “road trips,” but daily life on campus is even more important. At Darton, administrators, faculty, staff, and students collaborate to assure that living and learning coincide, and that both are fun. Perhaps most indicative of these dual goals is the Center For Adventure Based Leadership, including climbing towers, located in the center of the campus. In fact, it is so remarkable that executives of Fortune 500 companies and challenge course directors from across the United States converge at Darton to train on our facilities. Yet, we didn’t build these facilities for them—we built them for students like you.

Some universities measure greatness in decades and centuries. Florida Atlantic University measures it with every student who earns a degree, every researcher who makes a discovery and every community that is transformed.

About Tuskegee University:

1200 W Montgomery Rd  Tuskegee, AL 36088
(334) 727-8011

Welcome to Tuskegee University- "the pride of the swift, growing south." Founded in a one room shanty, near Butler Chapel AME Zion Church, thirty adults represented the first class - Dr. Booker T. Washington the first teacher. The founding date was July 4, 1881, authorized by House Bill 165.
We should give credit to George Campbell, a former slave owner, and Lewis Adams, a former slave, tinsmith and community leader, for their roles in the founding of the University. Adams had not had a day of formal education but could read and write. In addition to being a tinsmith, he was also a shoemaker and harness-maker. And he could well have been experienced in other trades. W. F. Foster was a candidate for re-election to the Alabama Senate and approached Lewis Adams about the support of African-Americans in Macon County.

Xavier University of Louisiana

About Xavier University of Louisiana:

1 Drexel Dr  New Orleans, LA 70125
(504) 486-7411

Located in New Orleans, Xavier University of Louisiana was established in 1925 when St. Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacramentfounded the coeducational secondary school from which it evolved. Drexel, supported by the interest of a substantial inheritance from her father, banker-financier Francis Drexel, founded and staffed many institutions throughout the United States in an effort to help educate Native Americans and Blacks.

Aware of the serious lack of Catholic-oriented education available to young Blacks in the South, St. Katharine came to New Orleans and established a high school on the site previously occupied by Southern University. The High School continues on today as Xavier University Preparatory School, known as Xavier Prep. A Normal School, offering one of the few career fields (teaching) open to Blacks at the time, was added two years later. In 1925 Xavier University became a reality when the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences was established. The first degrees were awarded three years later. In 1927, a College of Pharmacy was opened.
